The Truckee Trail was one of the main trails used by the emigrants coming to California. There are still areas along the trail where there is visual evidence of the use by these early travelers. While the primary purpose of the guidebook is to guide you along the trail route from marker to marker, you will also be provided with relevent information about the historical sites and other places of interest along the trail.
This 174 page guide is the first volume of two volumes planned for the Truckee Trail (The second guide is scheduled to be available September 2026). This new guide replaces the now out of print and no longer available “The Truckee Trail & Nevada City Road Driving Guide (Sixth Edition – 2021). The new publication covers the eastern section of the Truckee Trail where it leaves the main California Trail near the Humboldt Dike and takes you west as far as the crest of the Sierra Nevada. There are 40 markers located along this section of the trail. This guide is printed in the 8 1/2″ x 11” format. It includes a history of the development of the trail, detailed driving instructions for going from marker to marker, a description of the trail route, GPS coordinates for each marker, many maps and photographs, numerous emigrant diary quotes and historical commentaries for locations along the trail.
